Ocular ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to generate two-dimensional structural images of the inside of the eye and orbit (B-mode). It is essential for diagnosing retinal detachments, vitreous hemorrhages, lens dislocations, or the presence of ocular tumors when opacities of the transparent media of the eye prevent the use of a slit lamp or ophthalmoscope.
