YAG laser peripheral iridotomy is the first-line treatment for preventing or treating angle-closure (or narrow-angle) glaucoma. This condition occurs when the fluid inside the eye (aqueous humor) cannot drain properly, causing a dangerous increase in intraocular pressure that can damage the optic nerve. The laser resolves this anatomical blockage by creating a new drainage pathway.
