Bone densitometry (DEXA or DXA) is a very low-dose radiological test (the radiation received is less than what we naturally experience on a normal day) that measures the amount of calcium and other minerals in a bone segment. It is the international diagnostic standard for detecting osteopenia and osteoporosis, allowing the doctor to assess your actual risk of fractures and prescribe calcium, vitamin D, or specific medication.
