The Pain Management Unit is led by specialized physicians (frequently anesthesiologists with expertise in algology) dedicated exclusively to the management of chronic and complex acute pain. Unlike other specialties that treat the originating disease, the Pain Management Unit intervenes when acute pain does not subside within the expected timeframe and becomes a disease in itself (neuropathic pain, inoperable disc herniations, neuralgias, severe fibromyalgia, or oncological pain). Its approach combines advanced pharmacological guidelines and assessment for future minimally invasive techniques directly targeting affected nerves or tissues.
