Sintrom (acenocoumarol) is an oral anticoagulant drug that “thins” the blood to prevent the formation of thrombi or clots, commonly prescribed to patients with arrhythmias or heart valves. However, its effect can vary depending on diet or the intake of other medications. Therefore, it requires periodic monitoring through an INR (International Normalized Ratio) test, which indicates how long it takes for blood to clot, to keep it within a safe therapeutic range (neither too “thick” nor too “thin”).
