Surgical removal is the definitive treatment for benign skin tumors (such as nevi or atypical moles, lipomas, sebaceous cysts, or dermatofibromas) or lesions of uncertain behavior that require analysis. 'Direct closure' means that, once the lesion is removed, the edges of the skin have enough elasticity to be brought together and sutured directly, leaving a linear scar and minimizing healing time.
