Aqueous humor (intraocular fluid) drains through a structure called the iridocorneal angle (where the iris and cornea meet). Gonioscopy allows direct visualization of this angle to determine if it is open (open-angle glaucoma) or closed/narrow (angle-closure glaucoma). This distinction is critical, as the medical or surgical treatment varies completely.
