A standard electrocardiogram records heart activity for about 10 seconds. However, many arrhythmias (such as atrial fibrillation), electrical blocks, or tachycardias are intermittent. The Holter ECG is an ambulatory monitor that continuously records every heartbeat for 24 or 48 hours, allowing the cardiologist to correlate your symptoms with actual electrical abnormalities.
